Visitors to Africa often stand on street corners, watching in amazement as bicycles glide by laden with their remarkable cargo. Live chickens, full size caskets and just about everything else are everyday sightings.

Something as common and relatively inexpensive as a bicycle can bring a tremendous change to an African family. It can shorten vast distances and free up hours formerly spent walking.

Today this African grandmother is learning to balance on her new bicycle. All too soon, she will have mastered transporting a load of vegetables to sell at the market, a child on her back, and some amazing load on her head.

But for this moment in Time, she is free of burdens, a warm breeze is billowing through her clothing, and a huge, slightly scared smile is on her face. We've all been there ...as children.
