One Life at a Time

Title:  Tapestry

The inspiration for this piece came from stories told by Pippa Moore about her work with African women in Uganda. Working in what we would consider to be very primitive conditions, and using treadle sewing machines, Pippa and her helpers teach sewing and quilting to a group of local women in the hope that these women will teach other women the skills they have learned. Having these skills allows African women to support their families and to become more self-sufficient.

I have portrayed the hands of the world reaching out to provide opportunities to our sisters in Africa and it is my hope that these women establish growing enterprises that will provide opportunities for their children and grandchildren that reach beyond today and give hope for a brighter future.
