Together in Concert: In Solidarity with African Grandmothers

When: 4:30 PDT, April 15, and available for 72 hours

Where: Across Canada and the world

Celebrating 15 years of the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign, a team from the Campaign organized this amazing virtual concert. It highlighted Canadian talent, with vocal and instrumental music, dance, storytelling and drumming. Interspersed with the performances were messages from Canadian grandmothers, and Foundation staff from Toronto and Africa. Highlights for the Glacier Grannies were David Myles and Jackie Richardson who have sung in the Valley. Other outstanding performances included the National Ballet of Canada, Stratford Festival and Forte choir.

The concert represented the 160 Canadian Grandmother Groups and was enjoyed by members and their friends across the world. By the end of April, the concert had raised over $121,000.

Wouldn’t it be fun to have a nutritious snack while watching the concert? That’s what the Glacier Grannies thought! We piggybacked delightful boxes of charcuterie treats from Runge’s European Deli on 4th Street in Courtenay, to be enjoyed while watching the concert. Boxes included an appetizing array of meats, cheeses, crackers, pickles and spreads, and were delicious. Boxes were delivered safely to our customers’ doors by a small group of Granny drivers. No fuss, no muss just add your favourite beverage et voilà. Reviews have been very favourable. Perhaps charcuterie boxes will become an annual fundraiser for the Grandmothers Campaign?

We delivered 51 orders, providing a delicious light meal to about 100 people, and making almost $500 for the Foundation.  more

An enormous thank you to Joanne C. who worked with Runge’s to make this happen. We appreciated Runge’s hard work and organization – many thanks to owner Sean Ferguson and his terrific deli staff: Trevor, Amber La Belle and Ran Dickman.

Many Grannies also helped with organization and delivery: Thank you to Joanne W. who collected orders and payments, and transferred the information onto a spreadsheet, and Lydia R. who arranged the deliveries into zones, and coordinated the team of delivery folk.

A big thank you to those delivery folk: Jane S. and John B., Joanne and Sandy R., Lydia R. Sandy H., Joanne C., Maybeth H., Shelley M. and Carol C.
