Read moreOn September 5th 27 Grandmothers and Grandother set off from Campbell River for a 3 day cycle to Victoria to raise funds for the SLF.
They had good weather, no accidents and only one flat tire.
The Comox Valley Grannies hosted a lunch for the cyclists, their support team and local supporters, as they passed through Courtenay. Refreshed and refueled with the delicious home made goodies they pedalled off after about an hour with good wishes ringing in their ears.
Our Courtenay participating granny Marianne Muir writes;
"A huge thanks to all of you for helping the Grandmothers for Africa Bike Ride raise $70,000.00 this year. This money will go a long way to support the many grassroots organizations in Africa that depend on The Stephen Lewis Foundation for support.
We drew inspiration from stories from Africa. An Ethiopian grandmother told a visiting Canadian Granny
"Six years ago I was almost dead. I am HIV positive but through a program that supports myself and other grandmothers, I received the medicine and nutrition that I need to stay healthy and now look at me. My grandchildren are in school. I am alive and not afraid of anything!"
This story and others gave meaning to our journey, knowing that the money we were raising was going to be well spent.
Thank you all again for your support!!!"

An excellent sale! We made $2632.53 at the sale and another $150 by selling the better items left over on Craigslist.
There were 11 car boots spilling over with an amazing variety of goods. Set-up started at 7am and soon we had coffee and treats and the early bird buyers were arriving.
Bussiness was steady right up to closing at 12.00.
Many thanks to Comox United Church for the use of their parking lot, Mudsharks for the coffee, all donators of sales items and baked goodies, our hard bargaining sales people, Kerry for organizing refreshments, Bette for the crafts table, CV Echo and CV Record for publicity and all the members, family and friends who helped make the day such a success.
And to the sun for shining.

Cumberland main street was lined with booths and was very animated and colourful.
The day started out sunny and ended with a torrential downpour.
Lucky we had canopies!
Our two booths were filled with crafts made by many of the Grannies; Ardith's fish plastic bag holders, Barbara's kid's aprons, Lynn's smocked dresses, felt items, angels, worry dolls and much more. A wonderfuldisplay of our various talents!
We raised $370 to send to the SLF. Close
