Title: Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wave?
African grannies and grandchildren display tremendous strength and resilience in spite of the huge, looming threat of HIV/AIDS (shown as a tidal wave). Leaping and playing in the wave shows the joy they are still able to experience in their lives, a quality that I greatly admire.
I used the childlike figure many times over to represent all African children surviving the pandemic. The granny is larger than life but smaller than a tidal wave; bravely holding up the water so her grandchildren can have fun.
